"Have you ever listened to an album and it transports you, slowly remembering some distant memory that isn’t that distant but just left behind? Maybe a breakup with a girlfriend or a turbulent time with it’s stress forgotten. This is what happened as soon as I began listening to Bone Rock. It took me instantly back to a place I had just forgotten. The same resonate soulfulness of tape hiss and the warmth of analog music was a favorite of mine when I first moved here 10 years ago. Back then it was DJ Nobody who was relatively unknown and still is.
The same organic sound and moody beats can be heard in each. Where Nobody goes in a more conventional route with more and more polish; Nag Champa’s Bone Rock takes a far more loose approach constantly shifting moods and tempos. One nice thing about Bone Rock is that it is rather short. Only 30 minutes and 10 songs that are imperceptibly separated. Each song smoothly transitions into the next swinging groovy jam. Filled with guitar rifts, jangling loops and record needle scratch that just has more texture than any electronic music has. I hate to use “this is a gem” but it seems really appropriate in this case. With this being Dropping Gems first release the future looks pretty damn good."
